Dear International Students and Scholars,

ISSS would like to provide you with important information related to the emerging coronavirus outbreak and its impact on your studies. This outbreak occurred at a difficult time, coinciding both with the Lunar New Year holiday and with the return to campus from winter break. UConn Student Health and Wellness has posted information about the virus on their webpage <https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fshs.uconn.edu%2Fcoronavirus&data=02%7C01%7C%7C76b99a6e93d84872307208d7a5eb1f02%7C17f1a87e2a254eaab9df9d439034b080%7C0%7C0%7C637160301558013142&sdata=j15ynFWm02yw%2BCeEtjYW4SPz77f1O2xXo%2FFO1MbaJPU%3D&reserved=0> and have released an official statement<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fshs.uconn.edu%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F344%2F2020%2F01%2FUConn_Announce_Coronavirus.pdf&data=02%7C01%7C%7C76b99a6e93d84872307208d7a5eb1f02%7C17f1a87e2a254eaab9df9d439034b080%7C0%7C0%7C637160301558013142&sdata=Wj01cX%2Fm3mx9i8gnOtLtv9aZOGSRS0YklpWmdQmqwaM%3D&reserved=0> . Please refer to these resources for further information about the virus, virus prevention and the University’s response.

ISSS would like to remind all international students about class attendance and your studies. All international students must enroll full time (or otherwise be approved for a Reduced Course Load) and physically attending your classes, to maintain your student visa status.

If you have not returned to UConn this semester due to travel restrictions related to coronavirus, please know:

· Undergraduate students must be back on campus and attending full-time classes by Monday, February 3rd. You must take action to cancel your enrollment by Monday, February 3rd, or you will be financially responsible for tuition and fees. To cancel your enrollment for Spring 2020 term due to travel restrictions, email the Dean of Students office at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by February 3rd. Also email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>. University policy states, “A student who is enrolled in, but does not attend any classes or laboratory meetings during the first ten days of classes may be denied a place in the course. Such non-attendance, or non-attendance later in the semester, does not constitute withdrawal; the student must officially drop the course by regular procedures or risk being assigned a failing grade.”

· Graduate students who have been unable to travel to campus due to virus-related travel restrictions must also be back on campus and enrolled full time by February 3rd. Contact The Graduate School at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> as soon as possible (and before February 3rd ) to request a Leave of Absence, or to change your registration status to 0 credit. Also contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

If you will take Spring 2020 semester off (or take 0 credit) due to travel restrictions, your SEVIS record will be terminated and your F-1 student visa will not be valid for travel to the U.S. You will need to work with ISSS to obtain a new Form I-20/DS-2019 to return to UConn and resume your studies in a future term. Each student's immigration situation may need to be uniquely assessed, so it is very important to contact ISSS as soon as possible if you will not return by February 3rd.

If you are back at UConn, and you have decided self-quarantine based on the health recommendation of your government, please know:

· International students must take full time classes to maintain visa status. If you decide to self-quarantine for a short period of time, you must have the support of your professors to continue your academic work remotely during the quarantine period.

· If your self-quarantine will take place somewhere other than your dorm room or apartment (for example, a hotel) you must update your current local address in StudentAdmin to list your temporary physical location, to maintain your visa status.

Students who are sick (for any illness), who are being medically treated, and cannot keep up with their full time coursework due to the illness, should apply for Reduced Course Load authorization from ISSS. More information can be found on the ISSS website here<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fisss.uconn.edu%2Fpart-time-study%2F%23reducedcourseloadforillnessormedicalcondition&data=02%7C01%7C%7C76b99a6e93d84872307208d7a5eb1f02%7C17f1a87e2a254eaab9df9d439034b080%7C0%7C0%7C637160301558023144&sdata=Ke6RkxtJZEliobSl57KXJk8NmCKHWQ7tWPJStWRak6o%3D&reserved=0>.

Visiting scholars: If your travel to UConn is delayed due to the travel restrictions related to coronavirus, you must communicate with both your hosting academic department at UConn and with ISSS to find out if a later start date will be acceptable, and ensure that ISSS can issue your updated immigration documents.

Please contact ISSS if you have any questions at [log in to unmask]
