Position Title: Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Analyst 			NMEA Grade: 18

Position Definition: Maintains the City's enterprise GIS including the development and maintenance of the GIS database and applications and the development and implementation of upgrades to GIS software components; performs related work as required. 

General Duties: Develops, implements, and maintains the enterprise GIS database and data management procedures.  Monitors security and database protocol.  Coordinates implementation and applications of GIS hardware and software with consultants, vendors and users.  Works with user departments in developing user-friendly GIS applications.  Provides technical assistance to users.  Develops and implements upgrades to system components.  Assists in the data transfer and interoperability between GIS and other database applications.  Provides advice, guidance and leadership in the creation maintenance of GIS standards and guidelines impacting application development.  Develops mobile GIS applications.  Maintains and records related software license inventory. Keep existing maps, shapefiles and data layers up to date. Keeps all system build documentation current.  Performs other duties as required. 

Additional Duties: Assists in the development of the GIS budget.  

Supervised by: Director of Information Technology 

Qualifications Profile: Four years Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and two years' experience in the GIS technology field using and supporting GIS for the enterprise and desktop modules and the SQL programming languages.  Thorough knowledge of GIS systems technologies and applications including ArcGIS for desktop modules and ArcGIS Enterprise administration tools. Ability to integrate various databases and GIS applications.  Ability to provide Web delivery of GIS applications. Ability to provide basic GIS training to new or existing users. Ability to work in a team environment and able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a wide range of individuals.

License or Certificate: Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) or other professional GIS certification preferred.
