This sounds like a great opportunity for an environmental data geek!  


Research Project: The selected participant will conduct research focused on improving data access, analysis, and communication related to Long Island Sound environmental (water and habitat quality) and program implementation tracking data. The project will have three focus areas: 1) Evaluate the application of Open Science Tools (open-source software toolkits [primarily in the R language] and online cloud repositories, such as GitHub) to increase efficiency and reliability of data into Long Island Sound Study data management; 2) Assist in developing and implementing the Long Island Sound Study’s Program Implementation Tracking System; and 3) Assist in gathering, analyzing, and reporting data on Long Island Sound environmental indicators (see https://longislandsoundstudy.net/research-monitoring/liss-ecosystem-targets-and-supporting-indicators/).

A new announcement has been published for an ORISE Fellow to work with the EPA on the Long Island Sound program. ORISE (Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education) connects the most talented and diverse college students, recent graduates, postdocs, and faculty to programs closely aligned with the interests of a variety of research facilities at federal agencies. These STEM internship and fellowship programs are key to the recruitment and preparation of the next generation of our nation’s scientific workforce.

The position is for 12 months with an option for extensions. Please feel free to share with potential applicants who are recent, or soon to be, graduates of Masters or Doctoral programs. The application deadline is 3/29/2021 3:00:00 PM Eastern Time Zone. See the information and link below.
