I have been out of the loop this past year with some health issues but I am glad to see some of my hard work being part of the Trail Data Standard. I am the GIS Manager at The Housatonic Valley Association and I prepared the standard that was used for the trail map created by HVA and still being updated by HVA for NHCOG. I am glad it is being used, sometimes you put a lot of time/energy into something and it never gets very far.

Good Afternoon,

Tomorrow during our annual meeting we will be voting to adopt a new Trail Data Standard for the state.  The draft schema and GDB can be found on our website at https://ctgis.uconn.edu/standards/

The standard was developed through coordination between the Standards Committee, UConn, and the CT Trail Census. It was based off the trail schema originally developed by the Northwest Hills Council of Governments.  By utilizing a data standard, agencies will be able to collect data in a way that trail datasets can be seamlessly merged across the state.  Standardized trail data will have multiple uses for towns, COGs, the state and others including the CT Trail Finder website (in development).

Tomorrow the Standards Committee will be providing additional details and then we will hold a vote to formally adopt it.  Hopefully, this will be the first of many statewide standards that are developed and shared through the GIS Network and ultimately increase the ability for data aggregation.

Thanks again for everyone’s hard work putting this together!

Mark
