Dear international students and scholars,
Connecticut is expected to experience significant weather on Sunday, August 22, with a level 1 hurricane on its
way. As of now, parts of the Connecticut coast are under a hurricane warning, and the rest of the state is under a tropical storm warning. This could lead to power outages throughout the state, and you can expect significant wind and rain. If you will need
to get any last-minute groceries or other supplies, we recommend you get those today, and do not go out tomorrow.
For everyone’s safety, ISSS will cancel new student arrival and welcome activities that were planned for Sunday,
August 22, and Monday, August 23. This includes the airport shuttle planned for Sunday, and the in-person International Graduate Student Welcome Program planned for Monday. If you have registered for these services, we will send you a separate message today.
If the University remains open on Monday, ISSS will still plan to open for normal services that day. We recommend that students flying into the area
not try to travel to campus tomorrow, and instead stay locally in a hotel and wait until it is safe to come to campus.
