Dear Colleagues,

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently updated its guidance relating to COVID-19 testing and quarantine following out-of-state travel.

UConn has updated its Travel Guideline to remain consistent with the CDC.  Read the new Guideline.

Please familiarize yourself with this Guideline to ensure that you remain compliant with the requirements

This Guideline relates to all out-of-state travel lasting more than 24 hours by employees, whether traveling for personal or business purposes, and by whatever mode of transportation.  This new Guideline is effective November 18, 2021.

The most important changes to this policy relate to Testing & Quarantine Requirements Post-Travel, and HR Notice Requirements relating to out-of-state travel:

Fully Vaccinated Employees (and those with a Recent History of COVID-19) – No Change to Current Rules

§  UConn’s current rules relating to testing and quarantine of fully vaccinated employees (or those who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days) who travel out-of-state but domestically within the United States are already aligned with the CDC recommendations, therefore no changes to the UConn guidelines were made for this scenario.  There is no COVID-19 testing or self-quarantine associated with this travel.

§  Similarly, UConn’s current rules relating to international travel of fully vaccinated employees (or those who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days) are aligned with the CDC.  These employees must continue to have a COVID-19 test 3-5 days after return from travel, and they do not need to quarantine while awaiting the results of the test.

Employees who are Not Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 and Who Do Not Have a Recent History of COVID-19

Please note that the guidelines permit certain exceptions to the mandatory quarantine periods.

Currently, the UConn policy requires that all employees, regardless of vaccination status, notify HR and fill out a Pre-Travel Form before any out-of-state travel lasting more than 24 hours.  The policy has been updated to eliminate this notice requirement for fully vaccinated employees traveling domestically, since there is no testing/quarantine requirement associated with domestic out-of-state travel for this group.

Again, please note that it is a requirement that all employees, regardless of vaccination status, complete a Pre-Travel Form before any international travel, and that all employees who are not fully vaccinated and do not have a recent history of COVID-19 complete a Pre-Travel Form before any out-of-state domestic travel lasting more than 24 hours.

Thank you for your ongoing help to keep our UConn community safe from COVID-19.
