I like Camtasia by Techsmith (https://www.techsmith.com/video-editor.html). It is not free but not expensive, has good tutorials, includes libraries for effects, graphics and music. You edit and combine multiple clips and sources. It allows you to separate audio and video or keep them together. Not hard to learn either if you have never use video editing software before.

Seconding OBS as a recording software. Can't speak to Windows Photos, but if you have the creative cloud you can do basic stuff fairly easily in Premier.

When I was teaching and we went remote for covid, I used OBS (Open Broadcast Studio - https://obsproject.com/) to capture my camera, screen, and audio and then used Windows Photos (on Win10) to edit them together (clip, split, add text). Free and pretty straightforward to learn.

Good morning!

I am looking for a program that is part of a typical laptop install or available free online to create training videos.

Any favorites out there?

Ideally it would be able to:

  • Record screen action, such as an application demo
  • Record the speaker’s voice
  • Split a video clip to remove a segment (not just at either end, but from the middle as well)
  • Add a text screen to mark transitions
  • And be easy to learn

I have had some success with Xbox Game Bar which I found on my laptop.  And I see that Powerpoint has the ability to record video.

I’d love to hear what has worked for you.

Thanks a bunch!

ab
