Greetings NEARC Community:

I wanted to let you know that my Why Maps Matter 2 hour online course:

https://www.du.edu/elevate/course.html?instanceCode=ENRICH-0700_MAPS&courseInstanceID=ENRICH-0700_217697427&courseCode=ENRICH-0700

.. will be held the evening of this coming Thu 19 January if anyone is interested.  Especially meant for your colleagues/coworkers/friends who are wondering why YOU get so excited about mapping and GIS.  In other words, this is a gentle introduction to people outside of the GIS/geo/enviro field.   No jargon - just fun with fascinating 2D and 3D maps showing how relevant and important they are to society and a bit about the GIS that drives them all.

There is a small fee that goes to the University of Denver enrichment program to offer these courses.  Description following:

Haven’t all the maps been made? Do maps still matter in our digital high-tech age? What are your favorite maps? How can you make your own maps? Join geographer Joseph Kerski for a lively hands-on workshop that examines these questions, while exploring exciting, dynamic, interactive maps and data that are enabling us to make informed and sustainable decisions about energy, water, ecoregions, weather, health, population change and other relevant 21st-century themes from local to global scales.
