Hey Folks,

Thanks to everyone who took the time, to give me their thoughtful and helpful answers. I have included some of the resources, for other folks who might be in the same position I was.

Thanks to Tucker Beckett, at www.WestCOG.org  for sending me the ESRI shapefile I needed. I encourage anyone in Western CT to check out the WestCOG website - they provide lots of useful data and analysis.

Cheers,

Greg

For other folks, in other parts of CT, there's this:

CTData is the Census Bureau's state data center, so we have a few resources for this. You can download the decennial data on this page: https://www.ctdata.org/census-2020-data-hub

(scroll down to Download Census 2020 Redistricting Data). We have it available for towns, counties, tracts, and blocks.

We then join to the town shapefiles from: www.data.ct.gov

The US Census Bureau released the list of 2020 Census Urbanized Areas in December 2022.  This list is based on revised criteria for Urbanized Areas.  TigerWeb and Shapefile resources are now available for the December release.

Urban Area Tiger Web

Urban Area Shapefile FTP

2020 Census census block shapefiles have also been updated to include urban/rural flags.  Census block shapefiles released with the 2020 Census Redistricting release do not have the urban/rural block designations.

The Census Bureau's Center for Enterprise Dissemination Services and Consumer Innovation (CEDSCI) has also created many helpful Video Tutorials (census.gov) that walk data users step-by-step through how to access the redistricting data on https://data.census.gov/. I encourage you watch a couple of the videos to get acquainted with creating geography and survey filters and viewing and downloading data on the website.

To download the shapefiles,

1.            Go to TIGER/Line® Shapefiles (census.gov).

2.            From the drop-down menus, select "2020" for the year, and "blocks" for the layer type.

4.            From Block (2020), select "Connecticut" from the drop down. (Make sure you select the 2020 drop down, not the 2010.)

Subject: [CTGIS-L] Census 2020 Population Data?

Hey Folks,

Taking a shot in the dark here, but does anyone know where I can get clean, easy to use Census 2020 geography, with population data, for Fairfield County, CT (specifically, Greenwich)?  I’ve been looking around on the Census website, but it’s a bit confusing, to say the least, for folks looking to just download a shapefile, and join relevant data to it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg
