I do not know how it compares to the R2 as we never had the opportunity to get our hands on an R2.

However, we have deployed 12 Trimble DA2s for our offices. They work great with both ios and android. What users seem to appreciate is the ease of grabbing a catalyst license and using the esri apps. Opposed to having to log into an RTK network.

The RTX technology is something cool too. We are able to get precision grade accuracy in offline mode (just have to grab a license ahead of time). Also, it has been surprisingly accurate under canopy for our wetland staff with sub-meter precision.

For our GIS collecting efforts this is also an affordable option. The DA2 is $400 and we purchase blocks of 10-hour credits for $100 each ($10/hour). So instead of investing in a piece of equipment that we need to track ROI over a couple of years. The costs are directly applied to projects and ROI is almost immediate.

I would be happy to share more if you have further questions.

I would also like to hear of someone’s experience with Trimble Catalyst and Field Maps.

Good Morning,

We’ve been using a Trimble R2 RTK for several years now with Esri mobile apps. We are strongly considering buying a Catalyst to have on hand as well. Has anyone used Catalyst with an iPad and FieldMaps? When paying for the highest level of service, can we expect similar results to the R2?  Any problems I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Jeff
