I am writing to you today to ask that you consider participating in the 2nd Annual Career Everywhere Conference. For many student employees, their on-campus job is a first or second job for them and a great time for them to learn job related skills, including NACE Career Readiness Competencies that employers indicate are important for success post-graduation. You will also learn how you can help students identify and build these important skills and competencies. What is the Career Center's Annual Career Everywhere Conference? Registration Deadline is, Wednesday, October 25th at 5:00 p.m. Why is it important for supervisors to attend this conference? * Students are unique and come from a variety of backgrounds, which do not offer equal levels of access, equity or knowledge of career planning and development. As engagement with the Career Center is optional, it is imperative that students learn about "career" from those with whom they spend a significant amount of time: supervisors. Engaging in these conversations with supervisors, students come to understand the importance of the career planning process as well as learn about valuable resources and services to help them be successful both as students and post-graduation. * Incorporating these competencies into your supervision with student employees does not need to take a lot of time and can be done quickly with the assistance of the Career Center. Why is the Career Center leaning on supervisors? * According to our research, most supervisors are already having career conversations with students both formally and informally. We are looking to empower people across campus, including supervisors, to feel more comfortable having these conversations with students for the benefit of success for all students.
