The Fairfax County Government in northern Virginia (near DC) - Data Analytics Division is seeking a detail-oriented, problem-solving professional to join our dynamic countywide Data Analytics team. Focuses on applying geospatial technologies (with adequate programming skills) to play a key role in establishing and maintaining a geospatial platform/hub. This hub will harness the power of social, economic, demographic, and statistical research within the county, and to build scalable workflow and provide data-driven insights and visualizations to communicate findings accurately to various stakeholders. Will be exposed to various learning opportunities and be involved in multiple analytics initiatives across the division for a broad range of experiences. This is an exciting opportunity to grow into a subject matter expert role in our talented team.

Under general supervision, helps establish an innovative geospatial platform/hub, and provides technical skills to streamline data collection, analysis, management, and dissemination processes from multiple sources to support countywide projects and initiatives. Conducts in-depth research and analysis, develop statistical programs, data models, and algorithms on various topics including social, demographic, environmental, and economic factors to inform decision-making and planning and address business questions. Creates professional-level data reports, briefs, and visualizations. Accurately and clearly communicates findings and compelling data to data users and stakeholders. Develops and updates documentation that systematically records data sources, methodologies, and analysis processes. Participates in developing countywide data resources and training materials to provide better access to information. Balances multiple projects and collaborate with varying groups of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Implements or contributes to complex statistical analyses and models to better understand conditions and evaluate the impact regarding local government and effective service delivery.
  • Develops statistical analyses, models, and algorithms to uncover meaningful patterns and trends.
  • Collaborates closely with other data scientists to develop a geospatial platform/hub that hosts and manages datasets from diverse sources.
  • Collaborates closely with other data scientists to ensure geospatial platform/hub-hosted data meets data requirements supporting visualizations and analytics needed to address business questions.
  • Develops and implements processes and technical practices to routinely acquire, categorize, and prepare data for analysis and manipulation.
  • Creates intuitive data visualization tools and applications using Esri products.
  • Creates reports, documentation, and/or presentations to disseminate information clearly and meaningfully to diverse audiences.
  • Utilizes geospatial and programming skills to build scalable workflows to process and analyze large-scale datasets.
  • Plans, executes, and guides large-scale, cross-agency, analytics, and research projects involving multiple departments and organizations.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in developing materials that build capacity and enhance learning in social, economic, and demographic research, efficient and effective data analytics, and data reporting.
  • Employs general principles, theories, and practices of statistical analysis and research practices.
  • Considers equity in the delivery of data analytics services and production of products and materials.
  • Stays current with the latest developments in geospatial technology and provides actionable insights and recommendations to support business decisions and strategic planning.
