FAA Remote Pilot Certification Training - Chicopee

This course is designed for any person that is interested in obtaining the needed FAA certification to operate drones commercially and safely but have limited to no aviation experience.

This course is taught by Ryan Wicks, a professional pilot who flies drones in support of contract and scientific research under the University of Massachusetts Amherst “UMassAir” program.  Individuals that participate in this course will become fully qualified to take the FAA’s Remote Pilot Knowledge Test and earn their FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.  This is useful for anyone looking expand their skillset. 

This two-day 14-hour course will cover all the required knowledge content areas of the FAA’s Remote Pilot Test including:  Regulations, The National Airspace System, Weather, Aircraft Loading and Performance, and Flight Operations. 

The class will take place on Saturday, December 2 & Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 9:00 am-4:00 pm.

Course participants will also learn about key safety features of certain models of UASs as well as how to develop and follow sound checklist procedures and maintenance protocols.

Course Objectives

•             Prepare attendees with minimal UAS experience for the FAA Remote Pilot Written examination.
•             Introduce attendees to the current FAA requirements for drone operations as they apply to both private and public entities.
•             Introduce attendees on the current FAA Remote Pilot Regulations.
•             Highlight some of the most common safety practices for both current and potential drone operators.
