Greetings GIS Friends!

Are you thinking of expanding your GIS knowledge and taking some college courses to learn new skills or brush up on old? Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY is the place for you!

MCC has a handful of GIST programs including a 9-credit micro-credential, a 24-credit certificate (flyer attached), and a new two-year Associates in Applied Sciences degree (flyer attached). These programs are stackable, meaning you can earn the micro-credential with the certificate, or the certificate and micro-credential with the A.A.S. degree.

The 9 credit micro-credential for GIST professionals<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.monroecc.edu%2Fspecial-programs%2Fgeospatial-information-and-technology%2F&data=05%7C02%7CCTGIS-L%40LISTSERV.UCONN.EDU%7C645f0b783cec44f3e87808dbf8042ff3%7C17f1a87e2a254eaab9df9d439034b080%7C0%7C0%7C638376469145781347%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=s3VsiID6ytDloualcwtcM%2F8Ul3IIsPpmV8sV2Bau0IQ%3D&reserved=0> provides students an opportunity to increase their GIST skills in data acquisition, database management, Python for GIS, and web mapping. Check out the attached course flyers for more information on topics and skills covered in the micro-credential.

New to GIS and looking to learn more? The GIST Certificate<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.monroecc.edu%2Fetsdbs%2Fmccatpub.nsf%2Fhegis%2Bcodes%2FGeospatial%2BInformation%2BScience%2BAnd%2BTechnology&data=05%7C02%7CCTGIS-L%40LISTSERV.UCONN.EDU%7C645f0b783cec44f3e87808dbf8042ff3%7C17f1a87e2a254eaab9df9d439034b080%7C0%7C0%7C638376469145781347%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=usYSBIqrQZ2RA78xY8Gu2dj%2F0AYthEXHaMfmVJl5pWU%3D&reserved=0+(Gist)+(CERTIFICATE+PROGRAM)?OpenDocument> includes classes like Intro to Remote Sensing, Spatial Analysis, and a senior capstone course with a virtual internship as the culmination of the 24-credit program. The certificate can be completed in one or two years.

All courses are offered online/remote and fit the working professional’s schedule. Just take it from me – after earning my BA and MSc in Geography, I completed the GIST certificate program at MCC in 2020 and the micro-credential program at MCC in 2023, all while working full-time in the GIS field! I love the program and courses offered at MCC so much that I am continuing on to finish up the GIST Associates in Applied Sciences as well.
