*Message sent from a system outside of UConn.* According to Esri a hosted feature layer on AGO uses 2.4 credits per 10MB per month. A credit is worth $0.12 (1000 credits cost $120), so hosting 1GB of feature layer data for 12 months would consume 2880 credits and cost about $346. Attachments and files use 1.2 credits per 10MB per month. Imagery and web maps are 1.2 credits per GB per month (effectively free for web maps and applications). If you are trying to minimize hosting costs, make sure that you only host the data that you need to. I assume you are planning to host derived or aggregated datasets rather than re-hosting the original census data? It can be an advantage to load it into a file geodatabase first but note that the size on disc may not directly translate to the size in AGO. Hosted layer views do not consume extra space generally, and are useful for providing specific subsets of the data.
