Have any of you had opportunity to participate in or take the lead in scanning large numbers of large historical maps (i.e.: tax maps, railroad takings, highway acquisitions)? If so, what vendor did you use? Were they skilled in handling the historical maps properly to prevent deterioration? On-site or off? That sort of thing. We are in the process of trying to obtain funding to scan some (31,897) large (30 x 42) historical (1965-2015) tax maps that are very brittle and are already disintegrating. Trying to find some reputable vendors that we can approach for quotes and, should we receive the funding, for RFP’s.
