The Thirteenth Northeast Probability Seminar (NEPS) will be held at the C. P.
Davis Auditorium in the Schapiro Center at Columbia University on November 20th
and 21st, 2014.
The speakers are:
* Louigi Addario-Berry (McGill University)
"Growing random trees, maps, and squarings."
* Elizabeth Meckes (Case Western Reserve University)
"Uniformity of eigenvalues of some random matrices"
* Timo Seppalainen (University of Wisconsin-Madison)
"Variational formulas for directed polymer and percolation models"
* Melanie Wood (University of Wisconsin-Madison)
"The distribution of sandpile groups of random graphs"
As at the previous seminars, there will time allowed for short,
informal talks and discussion sessions.
The program was chosen by the seminar's scientific committee:
Gerard Ben Arous, Ivan Corwin, Carl Mueller, Daniel Ocone, Robin Pemantle,
Victor de la Peņa, and Jay Rosen.

Dinner for Women in Probability:
Women in Probability is an organization for women active in probability research.
Our primary purpose is to provide networking and mentoring opportunities for
early career women. Our activities are funded by the NSF. For more information on
Women in Probability and its activities, please visit our website

We will be hosting a dinner following the Northeast Probability Seminar on Friday,
November 21. We can offset costs for women graduate student and postdoc dinner
attendees. The invitation is open to all, and anyone interested in participating in

The NSF grant allows us to offer some financial support to participants from US
Universities. We will give preference to graduate students, postdocs, women and
minorities, and junior faculty.
Applicants for this financial support should provide:
* a one-page letter explaining their interest in the seminar and its relation to their
research interests
* a current CV
* graduate students and postdocs should also arrange for a letter of
recommendation to be sent from their advisor or some expert familiar with their
work
