While this debate may indeed be far down the list of important debates
we should be having in 2016, I think there is nevertheless something
irksome about these particular posts of Matt's, and this is not the
first round of complaints about them on NEARC-L.

If these were completely (as opposed to maybe only partially) sincere
attempts to stimulate discussion in the NEARC community, they would
simply be posted in full to NEARC-L, where this esteemed group could
carry on the discussion on our own turf (and terms); instead, they are
merely links to posts on a commercial website, with vague teasers that
seem to be modeled on the link-bait you find littering the commercial
web. While the topics themselves may be important, and the desire to
foster discussion may be sincere, it's hard to see their appearance on
NEARC-L as anything other than self-serving attempts to drive traffic
(IMHO).
